Anneth Predn

Anneth Predn is a full design and build house completed by us in Cornwall. The concept design and planning, as well as the frame design was undertaken by Pennine Oak Frames and we worked together on building control details with Greenheart, a design and build company in Bristol specialising in passivhaus projects. The result is the marriage of a traditional post and beam structure with a very well insulated and highly airtight wrap, giving an extremely comfortable living environment combined with the character of an exposed frame.

Full design and build

The frame is a contemporary post and beam style in Douglas Fir, with Larch external cladding and a traditional slate roof. Covered areas have been created to transition between inside and outside spaces. And the open plan kitchen living room has a south facing aspect and large glazed areas to maximise views of the garden and passive solar gain. A bespoke oak staircase and built in furniture were also undertaken by Pennine Oak Frames.

The aim of the build was to produce an environmentally friendly home in terms of energy use and building materials, and this was achieve using an all timber structure, recycled cellulose and wood fibre insulation, high airtightness detailing, an airsource heat pump for heating and hot water and a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system to provide fresh air with minimal heat loss.
